Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can I start my assessment?
Once you book a private autism or ADHD assessment, your process can begin within 24 hours. We don’t commit to fixed completion timeframes, as progress depends on completing pre-assessment forms and scheduling appointments.
Who can have an assessment with RTN?
We offer ADHD assessments for adults and children aged 6 and over, and autism assessments for individuals aged 6 and over. You can self-refer for a private assessment, no GP referral is needed.
Are assessments available online or in person?
Private autism and ADHD assessments can be completed either online or in person at our Kent and Cheltenham clinics.
What happens during an assessment?
Your assessment is led by experienced Neurodevelopmental Assessors using gold-standard diagnostic tools such as the ADOS-2, ADI-R (for autism), and DIVA (for ADHD). The process is person-centred and collaborative, with structured interviews and observations to build a complete picture. For ADHD assessments, each patient has a diagnostic outcome meeting with a qualified clinician (Psychiatrist, Pharmacist, or GP) to review results and discuss next steps.
Do you understand how ADHD and autism present differently across genders?
Yes. Our team receives ongoing training to recognise how ADHD and autism can look different across genders, ages, and cultural backgrounds. We’re trained to identify presentations that are often missed, such as masking in women and girls, ensuring everyone receives a fair and accurate assessment.
What does “adheres to NICE guidelines” mean?
It means our assessments follow the clinical standards and procedures recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for ADHD and autism diagnosis. This ensures your assessment meets the same quality and safety standards as those used in NHS settings.
What support is available after my assessment?
Your report will include clear recommendations and next steps. You can access ongoing support through RTN Therapies for tailored CBT and talking therapies, or through RTN Medical for ADHD medication titration and prescribing (for adults post-diagnosis). This ensures continuity of care under one trusted team.
Can I book talking therapy or CBT without an assessment?
Yes. You can book cognitive behavioural therapy directly with RTN Mental Health without a referral. Sessions are available online and tailored to your needs, including ADHD-focused and autism-adapted CBT.
Can I pay for my assessment in installments?
Yes. Flexible payment options are available to help spread the cost of your assessment.
