How Our Online Assessments Work

Once your GP referral has been accepted, our team will begin your assessment journey. Every stage is designed to be clear, supportive, and clinically robust, with our friendly Neurodevelopmental Assessors guiding you throughout.

Pre-assessment & triage We collect initial information to confirm that an assessment is appropriate and to plan the right approach for your needs.
Questionnaires You and a chosen informant (such as a partner, family member, or teacher) complete questionnaires exploring developmental history, traits, and behaviours.
Supporting information We may request additional documents, such as school reports, previous assessments, or medical notes, to help our clinicians build a complete picture.
Diagnostic interview A structured interview (or two, depending on your assessment type) is held online with a qualified assessor. This covers areas such as communication, attention, behaviour, and sensory processing.
Diagnostic report Following your assessment, a detailed clinical report is prepared and finalised by a Psychiatrist (for ADHD) or Psychologist (for autism) with extensive experience and specialist training.
Post-diagnostic feedback You’ll be invited to a feedback session to review your results, understand your diagnosis, and receive practical guidance for next steps and ongoing support.

Right to Choose FAQs

Please refer to our Right To Choose frequently asked questions for more information:

Am I eligible for a Right to Choose referral?
If you’re registered with a GP in England and not already under another NHS specialist service, you can request a referral through the Right to Choose pathway.
Who can access ADHD or autism assessments through Right to Choose?
Both adults and children aged six and above can access autism assessments, but we currently only offer adult ADHD assessments through the Right to Choose pathway. However, private options are available for child ADHD assessments.
Can I still ask my GP for a Right to Choose referral if I’m already on an NHS waiting list?
You can request a Right to Choose referral even if you’re on another NHS waiting list. You’re legally entitled to choose who provides your specialist assessment.
My GP didn’t mention Right to Choose — can I still use it?
Not all GPs are familiar with the process, but every patient in England has the legal right to choose their care provider for non-urgent NHS services.
Will changes to Right to Choose affect my current referral, assessment, or treatment?
If your referral has been accepted, your assessment and any follow-on treatment (such as medication for adult ADHD) will continue as planned.
How can my GP send their referral?
Your GP can email the completed GP letter, self-report questionnaire, and summary care record to enquiries@rtnmentalhealthsolutions.com or complete our online referral form.
How do I know if you’ve received my Right to Choose referral?
Once your referral is received, our team will email you to confirm receipt and outline the next steps. Please note that it can take several weeks or sometimes a few months for referrals to be processed, depending on demand. If you don’t hear from us straight away, there’s no need to worry — your referral remains securely on our system, and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
What is a referral form number (RF number), and where can I find it?
An RF number is generated when your GP submits your referral. It helps us identify your case quickly. Your GP can provide it if needed.
Do you offer adult ADHD medication?
Following a confirmed ADHD diagnosis, our sister company, RTN Medical, can provide titration and prescribing support, all regulated by the CQC.
What happens after my assessment?
You’ll receive a comprehensive diagnostic report with recommendations for ongoing care. You can then access follow-up support, including access to private therapy or medication, if appropriate.
Are your assessments in-person or all online?
All Right to Choose assessments are delivered online, making it easy to access expert care from anywhere in England.
