Our adult ADHD assessments are available online across the UK or in person at our Kent and Cheltenham clinics, adhering to NHS and NICE guidelines. Our expert team receives ongoing training to understand how ADHD presents across different genders, ages, and cultural backgrounds. Combining specialist knowledge, evidence-based tools, and a person-centred approach, we deliver clear, comprehensive assessments that reflect each individual’s unique profile.

Assessments and medication services are delivered through our sister company RTN Medical, a CQC-registered provider, ensuring your care meets the highest standards of quality and safety.

Common Signs of ADHD in Adults

ADHD presents differently in everyone. Many adults with ADHD share traits, but these experiences vary widely and can be shaped by a wide range of factors. Recognising these patterns can help people better understand themselves and access the right support.

Intense focus on areas of interest, but difficulty sustaining attention on less interesting tasks
Preference for fast-paced environments or a sense of urgency to stay motivated
May misplace items or lose track of things that aren’t in clear view
Restlessness or difficulty switching off and relaxing
Impulsivity in decision-making or speaking without filtering
Heightened emotional sensitivity, including rejection sensitivity
Periods of high productivity alternating with low motivation or mental fatigue

What Happens in an Adult ADHD Assessment?

Our adult ADHD assessments are designed to provide a clear understanding of your attention, focus, and executive functioning. Each stage is carried out by experienced Neurodevelopmental Assessors and adheres to NHS standards and NICE guidelines.

1

Pre-assessment & triage

We start by collecting background information to confirm whether an ADHD assessment is appropriate and to ensure the process is tailored to your individual needs.
2

Questionnaires

You and a chosen informant (such as a partner, family member, or close friend) will complete questionnaires exploring your developmental history, attention patterns, and day-to-day behaviours.
3

Supporting information

Additional documents, such as previous assessments, workplace feedback, or medical notes, may be requested to help build a complete understanding of your profile.
4

Diagnostic interview

A structured diagnostic interview lasting approximately 1½ hours is conducted online or in person with a qualified assessor. This session explores focus, organisation, impulsivity, and emotional regulation to form a well-rounded clinical picture.
5

Diagnostic report

A detailed report is prepared by our team and finalised by a Psychiatrist with extensive experience and training in ADHD and autism.
6

Post-diagnostic feedback

You’ll be invited to a dedicated feedback session to review your results, understand your diagnosis, and receive personalised recommendations for next steps. If ADHD medication is recommended, we offer a seamless service through our sister company, RTN Medical — a CQC-registered provider offering titration and prescribing support as part of the same trusted RTN network.

Adult ADHD Assessment FAQs

Who can have an adult ADHD assessment with RTN?
Our adult ADHD assessments are for individuals aged 18 and over who may experience difficulties with focus, organisation, impulsivity, or emotional regulation. You can self-refer for a private assessment.
Are assessments available online?
Our private assessments can be completed online or in person at our Kent and Cheltenham clinics.
What happens during an ADHD assessment?
Assessments are led by experienced psychiatrists using evidence-based diagnostic tools such as the DIVA interview, alongside a detailed clinical review. The process is person-centred and designed to help you feel understood while building an accurate picture of how ADHD affects your daily life.
Do you understand how ADHD presents differently in women and men?
Yes. Our team is trained to recognise the full spectrum of ADHD presentations across genders and life stages. ADHD in women and girls can often look different, sometimes showing up as inattention, emotional overwhelm, or internal restlessness rather than hyperactivity. Our experts are experienced in identifying these nuanced patterns to ensure a fair and accurate assessment for everyone.
How soon can I start my assessment?
Once you book a private assessment, your process can begin within 24 hours. We don’t commit to fixed completion timeframes, as progress depends on completing pre-assessment forms and appointments.
What does “adheres to NICE guidelines” mean?
It means our experts follow the standards recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for diagnosing ADHD in adults. This ensures your assessment meets the same high standards of safety and clinical quality used in NHS services.
What support is available after diagnosis?
You’ll receive clear recommendations within your diagnostic report. Depending on your needs, you may be referred to RTN Medical for medication review and titration, or to RTN Therapies for ADHD-focused CBT and executive function coaching. This joined-up approach means your ongoing care stays within one trusted team.
Can I pay for my assessment in installments?
Yes. Flexible payment options are available, allowing you to spread the cost of your assessment.
